About Us

At Bioscience Research Initiatives in Liberia (BIORIL), our strength lies in the dedication and expertise of our team. We are a group of emerging research scientists, laboratory technologists, public health professionals, and educators working together to advance bioscience research and innovation in Liberia.

Our Team

Mitchell, our Team Lead, is an emerging biomedical scientist at the National Public Health Institute of Liberia, with experience in molecular and serologic studies on priority infectious diseases.

 

He holds a BSc in Biomedical Science. His work focuses on disease surveillance, molecular diagnostics, and building local research capacity.

 

A passionate advocate for the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs), Mitchell emphasizes SDG 3 (good health and well-being) and SDG 4 (quality education).

Brenda, our Research Lead, is pursuing her second Master’s degree
in Bioinformatics at Wageningen University, Netherlands. She holds a Master’s degree in Biomedicine from Umea University, Sweden,
completed with support from the Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals.

 

Brenda began her academic journey with a Bachelor’s degree in General Biology from Thomas J. R. Faulkner College of Science,
University of Liberia.

 

With a diverse international education,
she brings valuable expertise to our team and serves as a role model for women in the scientific community.

Prince, a Global Changemaker and Lift Liberia Scholar, graduated from St. Peter Claver Catholic High School in Buchanan, Liberia.

 

He is currently studying at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, USA.

 

Prince grew up as an advocate for children’s rights, serving as 1st Deputy Speaker for the Liberia National Children’s Representative Forum.

A staunch supporter of science education and public health, he works with nonprofits to promote advanced science education and interdisciplinary research.

Renallan C. Neckles is a graduate student at Rice University, enrolled in the research-based
MSc Environmental Engineering program.

His current research focus is microbiome engineering.

 

In summer 2022, he was an NSF REU fellow at New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), gaining experience in Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology research.

In 2023, he was awarded the prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF), which currently sponsors his studies at Rice.

 

Renallan plans to pursue a PhD program
immediately after completing his MSc.

Judith is a junior student at the University of Liberia. She oversees the day-to-day operations at BIORIL. She is responsible for ensuring compliance with regulations, coordinating administrative tasks, and monitoring the progress of our programs and projects. Her strong organizational abilities and attention to detail make her an invaluable asset to the team; and we are confident that her expertise will strengthen our operational efficiency and compliance efforts.

James is graduate of Starz University, Liberia, with a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems. He is also a current Student at the University of the People, USA, majoring in Health Sciences. His expertise in information systems and willingness to contribute to Science give him the ability to coordinate our office and streamline communications.
